MEDIATOR SERVICES

Michael Grenert is now available to serve as a mediator to help parties resolve their employment disputes. Mr. Grenert current serves as a federal court mediator of employment-related lawsuits in Manhattan. He has also represented parties as an advocate in countless mediations and court settlement conferences.

EMPLOYMENT LAW

Michael Grenert has focused on employment law for his entire career over approximately 20 years.  He predominately represents employees, but also represents employers. His cases include claims of discrimination, sexual harassment, retaliation, breach of contract, unpaid compensation, whistleblower retaliation (and SEC bounty claims), unfair competition and breach of non-compete agreements, wage and hour violations including overtime, and defamation (including claims for defamation on the Form U5 seeking damages and expungement).  He handles lawsuits in federal and state court at the trial and appellate level, and arbitrations at FINRA, the American Arbitration Association (AAA), and JAMS (he is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey but has handled cases across the county pursuant to the local rules of each forum). 

Mr. Grenert’s individual clients include professionals employed in the financial services/securities industry, along with employees in other industries throughout the United States.  Individuals seek Mr. Grenert’s representation when they believe they have been wrongfully terminated from their employment or harassed on the job, or not paid what they are legally owed.  

Employers seek his representation to prevent and defend against litigation, and enjoy the perspective he has gained from years of representing employees who bring claims against employers. 

In addition to litigating, Mr. Grenert is routinely retained to negotiate or draft employment and separation agreements.  His experience litigating breach of contract claims makes him adept at drafting and negotiating sound employment agreements.

 

SECURITIES LAW

Mr. Grenert represents individual investors and brokers in securities arbitrations, including at FINRA.

In addition, he represents clients registered/licensed in the securities industry in regulatory proceedings brought by securities regulators such as FINRA. 

 

COMMERCIAL LITIGATION

Mr. Grenert also represents clients in commercial litigation.

Mr. Grenert was selected as the 2021 Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers© for Employment Law representing Individuals in New York City.

BOARDS AND COMMITTEES

Mr. Grenert was a member, by invitation, of the Advisory Board of the Center for Labor and Employment Law at NYU School of Law from 2014-2018.

Mr. Grenert is an active member of the National Employment Lawyers Association’s New York Affiliate (NELA/NY).

He was elected to be a member of and Secretary to the Executive Board of NELA/NY, which he was from January 2015 to April 2017.

He has been a member of NELA/NY's Legislative Committee, which drafts and lobbies for proposed legislation protecting employees, since 2009.  

The Legislative Committee was involved in getting an amendment to the New York State Human Rights Law passed in 2015 as part of Governor Cuomo's Women's Equality Agenda, providing that women who prevail on their gender discrimination claims are entitled to recover their reasonable attorneys' fees.  The Legislative Committee members including Mr. Grenert received NELA/NY's 2015 Gala Award for their work on this legislation.
